Position Summary

This position oversees Children’s Ministry from birth to Grade 5, including Impact (after-school program). The primary role is to provide spiritual leadership and discipleship to children and parents in pursuing EBIC’s mission of every generation growing together as Christ’s hands and feet in our world. This person will work in partnership with the other members of the Family Ministries Team to create a seamless and collaborative process for all involved.

  4. Desire and ability to work within a staff culture that is team-oriented and feedback-driven
  5. Ability to manage conflict in a loving and discerning way
  6. Passion for ministry to children and the ability to connect and partner with parents
  7. Previous 1-2+ years of experience in children’s ministry
  8. Successful completion of necessary background checks for employment
  9. Pastoral license or willingness to pursue licensure within the Brethren in Christ Church preferred
  10. Agreement with the Brethren in Christ Core Values and BIC Articles of Faith and Doctrine

Responsibilities

Oversee early childhood (Birth-PreK) and elementary (Kindergarten – Grade 5) ministry

  1. Oversee Sunday morning and midweek programs
  2. Recruit and coach volunteers according to volunteer strategy
  3. Select biblically sound and age-appropriate curriculum
  4. Lead children’s ministry leadership team
  5. Maintain children’s database and check-in system
  6. Coordinate with worship staff to oversee children’s choirs
  7. Provide leadership to the after-school program for grades 1-5 (Tue & Thurs 3:15-5:45)
  8. Welcome new children and parents into Family Ministries and lead families through the Child Dedication process

Coordinate with the Family Ministries Team

  1. Overall pathways and age transitions for children and parents within Family Ministries
  2. Volunteer training and appreciation events
  3. Planning and implementation of family activities/events
  4. Timely communication with the church office per the Communication Plan

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Preaching/Speaking on various occasions (Children’s Sunday, Child Dedication, etc.)
  2. Participating in broader congregational and denominational events

Hours: 40 hrs/wk (Monday-Thursday, Sunday) and some weeknight responsibilities
