The BIC U.S. is pleased to announce the nomination of Lynn Thrush for bishop of the Great Lakes Conference. The Great Lakes Conference search committee (consisting of the conference’s board of directors) submitted their nomination to the General Conference Board on February 11, 2016, who confirmed this recommendation.
General Conference Board will now present Lynn Thrush to the Great Lakes Conference for confirmation. If confirmed by the regional conference at their upcoming annual meeting, Lynn’s election as bishop will be complete. The recommendation is for a six-year term, with Lynn and his wife, Carol, being installed at the upcoming General Conference in July. Their term of service in this new role would then begin on August 1, 2016.
Graduating with his master of divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary (Wilmore, Ky.) in 1978, Lynn began his pastoral ministry at Fairview Avenue BIC in Waynesboro, Pa. Later, in 1991, he accepted the role of senior pastor at Gateway Community Church in Chino, Calif., where he’s been serving since.
Starting in 2004, Lynn also began serving as an adjunct professor in the Undergraduate Practical Theology Department at Azusa Pacific University (Azusa, Calif.). He currently teaches several BIC U.S. Directed Study Program courses and is the author of the book, Soaring Hope: Imagining Life As It Ought To Be.
Lynn and his wife, Carol, have four grown children and two grandchildren. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys church leadership and teaching. Lynn is excited for the opportunity to serve the BIC U.S. in the role of bishop.
