About & Role Overview
Sikalongo Bible Institute (SBI) provides training for Zambian Brethren in Christ pastors. A significant percentage of pastors currently serving in BIC Zambia received their initial training at SBI.
The Bible Teacher at SBI would be responsible for delivering comprehensive Biblical instruction to pastoral students, focusing on theological understanding, practical application to daily life, and fostering spiritual growth within the context of Zambian culture, while adhering to the Institute’s Christian doctrine and values.
Key Competencies
- Degree in Biblical Studies or Theology: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Biblical Studies, Theology, or a related field. A deep understanding of biblical text, Christian doctrines, and develop the ability to interpret scripture accurately within a Zambian context.
- Pastoral Experience: Prior experience in ministry or pastoral work.
- Teaching Experience: Proven experience in teaching Bible studies or related courses, preferably within a Christian educational setting.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with students, families, and other Administrative team members. Desire to learn and teach in Chi-Tonga.
- Interpersonal Skills: Interacts well with the SBI staff and Administrative team, maintains confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas, and exhibits willingness to try new things.
- Cross Cultural Awareness: Sensitivity to Zambian culture and the ability to adapt teaching methods to effectively reach diverse learners.
- Adaptability: Adaptable to changes in the culture and environment, and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Leadership: Ability to inspire and mentor students, foster a positive learning environment and promote spiritual growth.
- Spiritual maturity: Incorporates prayer, Biblical understanding, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading into training and planning.

Next Steps
This person will serve under the leadership of the Zambian BIC Church, SBI administration, and BIC U.S. World Missions as their sending agency. World Missions maintains several types of ministry relationships, and this role could be filled by a Covenant Missionary or Global Volunteer:
- Covenant Missionaries raise a portion of their own support, and World Missions provides administrative and financial support. They are eligible to receive full benefits, including medical, retirement, and resettlement. They are expected to complete our Missionary Development Program prior to deployment and serve terms of 1-3 years.
- Global Volunteers use their existing skills and experience to serve God in a cross-cultural assignment. Generally, they serve in their desired field for a defined period of time (generally between three and twelve months).
