The Director of Youth & Multicultural Ministries will lead the youth and multicultural ministries of Souderton Brethren in Christ Church (SBIC) in alignment with the congregation’s mission and values.

The ministry of SBIC includes an English-speaking congregation (with a number of Zimbabwean families participating) and a Spanish-speaking congregation, Iglesia Cristiana Souderton (ICS). ICS is led by a pastor and church board, under the umbrella of SBIC’s pastor and church board. This multicultural faith community has a growing appreciation of the value of intergenerational worship and discipleship.

Responsibilities

Developing Ministries

  • Lead SBIC ministry to and with Jr./Sr. high youth, in partnership with volunteers.
  • Initiate and lead multicultural opportunities, in partnership with volunteers, focusing on intergenerational connections (fellowship, worship, service and discipleship).
  • Work closely with the pastors of SBIC and ICS to strengthen our multicultural connections: Hispanic, Zimbabwean and Caucasian American.
  • Set ministry goals and evaluate the effectiveness of the above ministries.

Developing Lay Ministers

  • Recruit, develop and support volunteers for youth and multicultural ministries.
  • Meet regularly with volunteer teams to reflect, pray and ensure unity of vision and purpose.
  • Provide training and spiritual growth opportunities/materials.
  • Oversee volunteer scheduling and communications.

Engaging in the Life of the Church

  • Rotate attendance/participation in the worship of SBIC and ICS congregations.
  • As a member of SBIC, participate in the life of the church alongside other members – small groups, Sunday school, service and fellowship opportunities.

Hours: 25-30 hours per week

Reporting Structure: Reports to SBIC Lead Pastor, provides monthly reports to SBIC Church Board

Qualifications

  • A vibrant, deep and growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ, demonstrated through active spiritual formation practices.
  • Previous experience in ministry leadership (volunteer or paid).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Alignment with the beliefs, core values and practices of the Brethren in Christ U.S.
  • A commitment to the mission of SBIC/ICS and to learning about the variety of cultures within both congregations.
  • A passion for developing the faith and gifts of young people, and multicultural experiences that nurture Christian faith and facilitate deep, trusting relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and communicate well with a variety of people.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and/or Ndebele, in addition to English, is a plus.
  • Musical capability (vocal and/or instrumental) is a plus.
