Church Overview
Harrisburg Brethren in Christ Church is seeking a part-time Pastor of Early Childhood. As a member of the pastoral staff in a multi-ethnic urban church, this position reports directly to the Senior Pastor. They will provide leadership and coordination for ministries designed to support the emotional, spiritual, and practical needs of parents and family caregivers with a focus on families with young children. This role will also oversee early childhood programming and spiritual formation. This is a part time (12 hours per week) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
Pastoral Family Care and Fostering Community
- Facilitate community-building opportunities that provide places for parents to engage with each other, create friendship and build supportive communities.
- Help parents understand how to cultivate spiritual growth within the family unit.
- Partner with children and youth leaders to facilitate planning of mentoring opportunities, parenting panels, and discussion forums where families can learn from one another.
- Coordinate with deacons and children’s ministry leadership to strengthen support for families during challenging life experiences with holistic care that includes spiritual, physical, emotional and tangible support.
- Create other educational opportunities and resources based on a needs assessment of young families.
Early Childhood Ministry Development and Programming
- Plan and implement a year-round cycle of programming for the early childhood Sunday morning services in coordination with children’s ministry leaders.
- Other duties as assigned, including child dedications, continuing ed, etc.
Volunteer Leadership
- Build and nurture a volunteer team rooted in hospitality, compassion, and service to facilitate small groups, support families, and assist with ministry programming.
Administrative Duties
- Responsible for ensuring effective scheduling, communication, and logistics of programming and events.
- Maintain administrative records on Google Drive and ensure volunteer background check compliance.
- Manage program budget.
- Attends staff meetings at least monthly and provides weekly reports to staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred with a commitment to continued professional education and licensing with the Brethren in Christ denomination.
Experience
- Experience in family ministry program development or education, leading teams, coordinating volunteers and supporting people in parenting roles.
- Comfort with community outreach and multicultural contexts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workplace.
- Experience in Planning Center, preferred.
