From mobilizing disaster relief to meeting basic human needs, the Global Compassion Fund exists to alleviate suffering around the world.
Through the Global Compassion Fund, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in extraordinary need. Started in 1974 as the “World Hunger Fund,” the ministry was established to provide hunger relief for those living in countries with a BIC presence. Over the following years, the ministry expanded to include a broad range of compassion and relief assistance — such as providing disaster relief after a flood and contributing school supplies for impoverished children.
The Global Compassion Fund holds funds in a designated account. This account is replenished through the generosity of individuals and congregations. As needs arise, the leadership team reviews requests for assistance and, upon approval, disperses funds where necessary.
Over the past decade, we have been able to offer more than $1 million in aid to countries including Haiti, Honduras, India, Japan, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Zambia, and Zimbabwe:
- 2007 — $114,257
- 2008 — $72,800
- 2009 — $309,260
- 2010 — $166,710
- 2011 — $139,160
- 2012 — $86,970
- 2013 — $57,684
- 2014 — $37,257
- 2015 — $71,500
- 2016 — $62,510
