About
The position of associate pastor is to assist the senior pastor which all the duties of pastoral ministry at West Side Brethren in Christ Church with a goal of succeeding the current pastor at a time decided with the senior pastor, associate pastor and the Church Board.
Qualifications
- A firm commitment and testimony of Associate Pastor’s commitment to God and His son Jesus Christ as demonstrated by personal testimony and written statement.
- Well-funded base of Biblical knowledge
- Become a member of the West Side Brethren in Christ congregation.
- Knowledge of Brethren in Christ theology including anabaptism, pietism, Wesleyanism and evangelicalism.
- Meet the standards for elders as given in I Tim 3: 1-7, Titus 1: 7-16
- Be licensed or work toward obtaining a minister’s license from the Brethren in Christ Church.
- Affirm the Articles of Faith and be submissive to church leadership and Conference decisions.
- Meet the standard for Pastors in the Manuel of Doctrine and Government.
- Desire to become ordained.
- Life goal of becoming the senior pastor of a congregation.
- Willingness to be mentored by the current senior pastor to master the position of senior pastor at West Side.
- Leadership abilities.
- Demonstrate exemplary character in relationships, finances and lifestyle.
Duties
Associate Pastor may assist or be assigned these duties as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor. Not all of these duties will be mandatory.
- Assist the pastor with duties as assigned.
- Assist, plan and prepare worship services for special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Communion, etc.
- Teach adult and youth Sunday School classes.
- Lead small groups and Wednesday evening Bible studies.
- Make hospital and home visits as needed.
- Prepare and present sermons.
- Be available for counselling, discipling and life instruction.
- Direct the Bible School Committee to plan the Bible school activities.
- Direct the Youth Group.
- Develop an effective outreach program.
- Attend all Board meetings and Committee meetings as a nonvoting member.
- Meet with the pastor biweekly.
- Work closely with the Church Administrative Assistant to become familiar with administrative procedures.
- Develop knowledge of church facilities and operating procedures.
- Attend pastoral seminars and training sessions.
- Attend Allegheny Regional conference and General Assembly.
Appointment and Terms of Service
- Appointed by the Church Board and Pastor in consultation with the Bishop.
- Terms of service and compensation negotiated by the Church Board in consultation with the Bishop.
