Encounter Church of Palmyra has been given a unique role in the greater Palmyra, PA area. With a growing population, Encounter Church seeks to impact its community and the world with the transforming truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This will be accomplished through its mission: “Followers of Jesus Bringing His Love to Life.” As followers of Christ, we are transformed by the grace of Christ, called to live out the Gospel in our lives and families, and by doing this we are an example of the Gospel to the world.

Commitment

  • To devote energies and action to glorifying God, assisting in the implementation of the Mission, Strategy and Values of Encounter Church
  • To pray for Encounter Church—for staff, leaders, church family, and community
  • To disciple the members and attenders of Encounter church in further knowledge of the truths of Christianity
  • To assist in providing pastoral care to the congregation and community
  • To act in accordance with the Encounter Church bylaws and adhere to the Encounter Church Staff Ethics

Role

The Community Care Pastor’s role is to create and facilitate opportunities for the church family and surrounding community to connect with one another and grow closer to Christ. The following is a summary of the focus areas:

Personal & Spiritual Growth (all staff) – Grow in the knowledge and wisdom of Jesus.

  • Spend time each day with God in prayer and reading His Word
  • Spend time each month with God in personal retreat (1 day full-time)
  • Spend quality time with spouse, building into our marriage and family
  • Manage finances with integrity / good stewardship

Vision & Leadership (all staff) – Provide strategic planning and vision for Encounter Church while modeling servant leadership.

  • Incorporate plans and ideas from staff and lay leaders, as appropriate
  • Meet with Lead Pastor regularly regarding the accomplishment of the churches mission through, ministry effectiveness, evaluation, discernment, decision making, planning, and overall direction of the church

Discipleship/ Evangelism (all staff) – Create a culture of discipleship and evangelism.

  • Assist people in thinking through opportunities to “go out” and share the Gospel both within and outside of the Church

BIC Involvement (all staff) – Remain aware and engaged in the BIC.

  • Encourage Atlantic Conference attendance
  • Attend BIC-sponsored events as available

Adapt (as needed) (all staff) – Remain flexible to needs and opportunities.

  • Adapt to unforeseen needs and circumstances (e.g., pandemic)

Young Adults – Oversee the Young Adult Ministries

  • Connect with current Young Adult leaders to provide continued leadership to the young adult ministries
  • Recruit new volunteers
  • Put together yearly budget for the young adult ministries
  • Oversee the creation of new ideas for how the church can engage with and disciple young adults better

Family – Provide care and leadership to families within the church

  • Create and oversee the implementation of ideas and structures to intentionally shepherd families within the church
  • Create and oversee the implementation of ideas and structures to intentionally shepherd marriages within Encounter Church
  • Create and oversee the implementation of structures to intentionally shepherd singles within Encounter Church
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the Men’s ministry team
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the Woman’s ministry team
  • Provide oversight and leadership to Marriage ministry

Pastoral Care – Ensure the spiritual health of the families within the church.

  • Willing and able to be licensed in the BIC church
  • Perform various pastoral duties as needed including but not limited to weddings, funerals, and pastoral counseling
  • Provide oversight to the visitation team (senior visitation, hospital visitation, and home visitation)
  • Oversee the usage and distribution of compassion funds to people from the church and/or community who are in need of financial assistance

Missions Team – Oversee and provide leadership to the Missions Team.

  • Oversee the Missions Team
  • Oversee the creation of the annual Missions team budget
  • Maintain relationships with various missionaries around the world, in association with the team
  • Organize and schedule quarterly missions Sunday services
  • Brainstorm and implement ideas for additional service within the surrounding community (Ex. Impact Palmyra)
  • Brainstorm future missions ministry opportunities
  • Organize regular service opportunities for the church to engage in (Ex. Paxton street, Jubilee ministries, Align life ministries)

Preaching – Provide biblically based and theologically sound teachings on Sunday mornings.

  • Be a member of the Preaching Team planning sessions
  • Preach on Sunday mornings 4-6 times a year
